Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A barangay chairman survived a slay attempt allegedly staged by two of his constituents in Rizal town in Cagayan, police said yesterday.

Prior to the shooting, Eduardo Datul, 44, chairman of Barangay Lattut, reportedly accosted the suspects identified as Eugene Bergonia and Jake Molina for staying in a waiting shed at past 10 p.m. on Oct. 2.

The suspects reportedly pulled out a gun and shoot Datul before fleeing, according to Rizal chief of police Senior Inspector Arthur Sto. Tomas.

Datul was rushed to the hospital for treatment of bullet wounds in the arms and body.

Rizal Mayor Joel Ruma condemned the incident as he expressed belief that it was politically-motivated.
