16 injured in Albay smashup
DARAGA, Albay, Philippines – Sixteen persons were injured in a smashup involving seven vehicles in Barangay Malabog here on Friday.
Police Officer 2 Juny Mabini said a cargo truck developed engine trouble causing its driver Salustino Abasola Jr. to lose control of the wheel and hit a passenger jeepney driven by Ernesto Nales.
Nales’ vehicle slammed into another passenger jeepney driven by Elisor Aleno, which slammed into a Hyundai vehicle parked along the road.
The Hyundai collided with a Mitsubishi Adventure van driven by Eduardo Medrano, which hit an Isuzu Hilander driven by Nomer Concepcion.
Concepcion’s vehicle smashed into a Mazda car driven by Rodel Tan.
The victims were taken to the Regional Training and Teaching Hospital (RTTH) for treatment.
Authorities are readying charges against Abasola and the owner of the cargo truck.
