DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines – A wounded striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) was found at the provincial capitol beachfront in Lingayen, Pangasinan yesterday morning.
Dr. Westly Rosario, chief of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) center here, said this is the first time that a dolphin of this type was found at the Lingayen beach.
The striped dolphin, a rare species, is about 2.2 meters long with a girth of 94 centimeters, and weights 78 kilograms.
The dolphin, which has a bite wound similar to a bullet wound, would be subjected to a blood test to see if it has an infection, Rosario said. – Eva Visperas, Cesar Ramirez
