PDEA nabs Cotabato City's 'drug queen'

John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY – Lawmen nabbed Wednesday the alleged “queen” of local drug traffickers in a raid in one of her clandestine shabu distribution outlets here.

The 34-year-old Maide Latip, tagged as a major supplier of shabu here and in surrounding Maguindanao towns, did not resist arrest when she sensed that agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency had surrounded her hideout.

The PDEA operatives, led by Felimon Ruiz, the agency’s director for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, recovered from her possession 90 sachets of Shabu and drug sniffing paraphernalia.

Ruiz said they learned of the presence of Latip in one of her Shabu distribution outlets -- from among at least seven -- from neighbors.

”She is a big time peddler of Shabu that is why she is known as the `queen’ of drug traffickers in the city,” Ruiz said.

Ruiz and his men also arrested Latip’s companions, Nora Odin, Mud Latip and Abdulrakman Sulayman, who worked for her as drug couriers.

Latip and her companions will be charged for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
