Quedan expected to become a typhoon

MANILA, Philippines - Quedan was expected to intensify into a typhoon within 12 to 24 hours, according to the state weather bureau.

Rene Paciente, chief of the weather forecasting section of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, however, said Quedan would not hit any part of the country. As of 4 p.m. yesterday, the center of Quedan was spotted at 780 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 105 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph. It was forecast to move north-northwest at 13 kph.

Paciente said good weather would continue to prevail over most parts of the country, except for isolated thunderstorms.
