Threats force 7 Misamis workers to quit jobs

Gerry Lee Gorit - The Philippine Star

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY , Philippines– Seven workers from Misamis Oriental have decided to quit their job in Cavite and return home after the relatives of a slain retired police officer reportedly threatened to harm them.

The father of one of the men said there were 16 workers from Binuangan town employed by the Interworld Plastic Manufacturing Co. based in Bacoor, Cavite.

He said the trouble stemmed from the killing of a retired police officer by a co-worker from Bohol who stays in the same bunker with the laborers and the victim.

After the victim’s burial, the relatives reportedly threatened the occupants of the bunker. The threats prompted some of the workers to seek employment elsewhere while some decided to go home.

The provincial government of Misamis Oriental facilitated the workers trip home after their families sought the help of Gov. Yevgeny Emano.

Provincial administrator Jun Pacamalan said the provincial social welfare department would conduct a stress debriefing on the workers.
