Rainfall alert for Metro Manila, nearby provinces terminated

Louis Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The state weather bureau has lifted the yellow rainfall advisory for Metro Manila and several other areas that were pounded with heavy rains on Monday morning.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) terminated the rainfall alert earlier issued to Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga and portions of Laguna, Quezon, Cavite, Batangas and Occidental Mindoro.

The agency announced the lifting of the rainfall advisory at 2 p.m., saying only light to moderate rains are affecting the said areas for the past two hours.

PAGASA, meanwhile, warned that moderate to heavy rainfall is still expected over the provinces of Bataan and Zambales within three hours.

"Flooding in low-lying areas may still prevail over these areas," PAGASA said.

In Zambales, several people were reportedly killed after floods and landslides hit some villages in the province.
