Orange rainfall alert up in Metro Manila, nearby provinces
MANILA, Philippines - The state weather bureau has issued an orange rainfall advisory for Metro Manila and some provinces on Monday morning as heavy to intense rains are affecting these areas.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued the second orange rainfall advisory at 8:45 a.m for Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Zambales, Bataan, and portions of Laguna, Quezon, Cavite and Occidental Mindoro.
"Heavy to at times intense rainfall is affecting Metro Manila, Zambales, and Bataan and most likely to continue for the next 3 hours," the advisory said.
PAGASA added that moderate to heavy rains are also affecting Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga and portions of Laguna, Quezon, Cavite, and Occidental Mindoro and may persist for three hours.
"Flooding is threatening," PAGASA also said.
The weather bureau issued the orange rainfall advisory over Metro Manila due to the southwest monsoon or Habagat affecting southern Luzon and Visayas.
Last month, a storm-enhanced southwest monsoon also dumped heavy to intense rains in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, flooding several areas and prompting authorities to suspend classes and work for some days.
In its 24-hour weather forecast, PAGASA said Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
The Mimaropa and Bicol regions will also have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.
Northern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
PAGASA said as of today, there is no tropical cyclone existing within the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
The heavy rains have caused some floods in various roads in Metro Manila and prompted school authorities to suspend classes.
