LLDA to host water, flood summit

MANILA, Philippines - Government executives are set to attend the water and flood management summit that will be hosted by the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA), according to Presidential Adviser for Environmental Protection and LLDA general manager Nereus Acosta yesterday.

The event, which will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center on Oct. 3 and 4, will be opened and  keynoted by Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson and Budget Secretary Florencio Abad.

The gathering titled “The Laguna Lake Water and Flood Management Imperative” aims to address and resolve water and flood issues within the Laguna de Bay Region (LdBR).

Acosta said there is a need for everyone to get take part in crafting viable and long-term solutions to problems involving water supply and flooding.

“Through science-based analysis and approach to solution, we will be able to come up with ways to promote the sustainable resiliency and adaptive development of the Laguna Lake Basin,” he said.

The conference will bring together representatives from different sectors such as industry owners, business leaders, pollution control practitioners, local government units and policy makers, civil society, academe, and members of peoples’ organizations.
