Neophyte lawmakers back Zambo donation

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Neophyte lawmakers have given their full support to House Resolution 303 allowing the chamber to deduct P10,000 from the salaries of each congressman as their one-time contribution to the victims of the Zamboanga siege.

Marinduque Rep. Regina Reyes said a huge amount is needed for the rehabilitation of the damaged houses, infrastructure and livelihood in Zamboanga City because of the ongoing crisis there.

She said all neophyte lawmakers are willing to support the initiative of House leaders to help those affected by the Zamboanga crisis. She was one of those who were first to sign House Resolution 303.

Under the resolution, P10,000 will be deducted from the monthly salary of each lawmaker, and since there are 289 House members, this will amount to P2.89 million.
