Karapatan to gov't: Release all NDFP consultants

MANILA, Philippines - Rights group Karapatan on Monday reiterated its call on the government to release all peace consultants of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines.
The group made the call anew as another NDFP consultant, Loida Magpatoc, was arrested by authorities in Davao del Sur.
Magpatoc, 54, was nabbed last July 28 in Digos City, Davao del Sur, despite being protected by the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees, Karapatan secretary general Cristina Palabay said.
"The JASIG is again violated with the arrest of Loida Magpatoc..., "Palabay added.
Palabay said that Magpatoc is a holder of NDFP Document of Identification No. ND978254 using the assumed name Puri Feleo.
Magpatoc’s arrest brings to 13 the total number of JASIG-protected peace consultants in detention, Karapatan said.
"It is clear that the Aquino administration already killed the peace talks between his government and the NDFP as it continues to violate previously signed agreements and by the continued surveillance, harassment and, arrest of NDFP peace consultants and staff on trumped up criminal charges," Palabay said.
She said that Magpatoc, who was arrested for charges of robbery with double homicide and damage to properties, was transferred last Aug. 21 from Digos City police to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City where she is facing nine more cases.
