PASUQUIN, Ilocos Norte, Philippines – A pygmy killer whale bearing a deep bullet wound was washed ashore in a coastal village here, authorities said.
Arthur Valente, fishery regulation officer of the provincial agriculture office, said the pygmy killer whale, measuring 2.26 meters, was given antibiotic treatment by the provincial veterinary office and was subsequently returned to the sea.
Whales frequent the northern Ilocos coast because Ilocos Norte is reportedly a convergence zone of the West Philippine Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
