LAPU-LAPU CITY , Philippines – At least 530 inmates here cut their hair yesterday to donate it to efforts to contain the oil spill that resulted from the collision of a ferry and a cargo ship off Talisay, Cebu last Aug. 16.
Lapu-Lapu City jail warden Chief Inspector Renante Rubio told The Freeman that 500 male inmates and 30 female inmates, out of 900 inmates, felt they could extend help by donating their hair to give back to the city government for assisting them, too.
The hair donation will be turned over to the City Environment and Natural Resources Office to serve as temporary spill boom.
