The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 23-year-old woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl inside a Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 train in Manila on Thursday morning.

LRT Authority spokesman Hernando Cabrera said the woman was with her parents and they were on their way to the Jose Fabella Hospital when she suddenly felt labor pains at the Legarda station.

“Papunta raw sila sa Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital nang mapabilis ang panganganak niya at sa tren na siya inabutan,” Cabrera said.

The woman gave birth to the girl with the assistance of a nurse, named only as Anna, who was fortunately riding the same LRT train.

The baby was born as the train was approaching Recto station at around 8:50 a.m.

Cabrera said the baby was the third to be born at the LRT system this year. The last baby was born at the LRT Line 1 Blumentritt station was July 31.

He added that the baby girl is the 16th to be born at the LRT system since it became operational in 1984.
