Misamis inmate bolts jail, but re-arrested

Gerry Lee Gorit - The Philippine Star

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – A murder suspect tried to escape from the Misamis Oriental provincial jail here last Sunday, but was eventually re-arrested by jail guards.

A jail official said inmate Federico Amante was able to escape with the help of a fellow inmate who destroyed a portion of the perimeter fence using rocks and a metal rod.

The provincial government under the new governor, Yevgeny Emano, has signified its desire to sell the lot occupied by the provincial jail and construct a rehabilitation center which Initao town is willing to host.

In a related incident, two women serving time in jail for robbery escaped in Davao City last Saturday while throwing out garbage. One was eventually re-arrested, while the other is believed hiding in this city.
