Lolong back in Bunawan

DAVAO CITY , Philippines   â€“ Lolong is back to its place of captivity in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.

The remains of the giant reptile were taken out of the Davao Crocodile Park five months after being kept in two separate freezers.

Philip Dizon, Davao Crocodile Park proprietor, said, “I understand the remains will be brought to the town of Bunawan, Agusan del Sur after which it will be brought to Butuan City before it will be brought to the National Museum in Manila where it will then undergo the preservation process of taxidermy.”

A cargo truck fetched the two freezers from the Davao Crocodile Park.

Dizon said the crocodile park would make an exact replica of Lolong from silicon mould and thin cement.

One replica would be displayed at the Davao Crocodile Park, and another at the ecotourism and research park in Bunawan town, he added.

The Guinness Book of World Records declared Lolong the world’s largest saltwater crocodile in captivity after it was caught in the Agusan Marsh in 2011.

Lolong was kept in a pen at an ecotourism and research park in Bunawan until it died last February due to pulmonary illness.

Last March, Lolong’s remains were taken to the Davao Crocodile Park for safekeeping following a po-wer crisis in Agusan del Sur and most parts of Mindanao.
