Phl eagle released in the wild

The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY – A three-year-old Philippine eagle was released yesterday morning at the Mt. Balatukan National Park in Claveria, Misamis Oriental.

The release of “Minalwang” in the wild was conducted by the non-profit Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF), which runs the Philippine Eagle Center in Calinan district here.

PEF director Dennis Salvador said Minalwang was caught by villagers in October 2011 and turned over to the foundation, which helped it recuperate from injuries.

Salvador told The STAR the release of Minalwang cost at least P1 million, including expenses for preparations, the release itself, and post-release monitoring.

He said the amount also included global positioning system equipment such as radio and transmitter systems attached to the eagle.
