MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Thursday claimed that more legislators have expressed support to its Southwest Integratel Provincial Terminal project amid initial complaints from commuters.

In a statement, MMDA said five more congressmen in Cavite province have expressed support to the terminal project, which they said would solve traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

"We fully support the continued implementation and operation of the first established Interim Transport Terminal, the Southwest Terminal,"   said Cavite lawmakers Francis Gerald Abaya (1st District), Alex Advincula (3rd District); Elpidio Barzaga (4th District);  Roy Loyola (5th District); and Abraham Tolentino (7th District) who signed an August 12 resolution.

"The main goal of integrated transport system such as the Southwest Terminal is to solve the perennial traffic problem in Metro Manila to spur economic growth, to which the Cavite congressmen is in full support of," they added.

Last Monday, Metro Manila congressmen expressed their support to the MMDA’s integrated terminal project as it would help address the proliferation of colorum and out-of-line public utility buses along major thoroughfares.

Earlier, the Cavite Mayors League also threw their support to SWIPT, which it said will put order to the operation of the legitimate PUBs plying the Cavite-Manila route.
