Vendor invited for questioning on bus burning

Ed Amoroso - The Philippine Star

LAGUNA, Philippines – Police have invited for questioning a market vendor in San Pedro town who, based on an artist’s sketch, resembles one of the 15 armed men who torched 10 passenger buses in a motorpool in Pagsanjan town last Monday.

Senior Superintendent Pascual Muñoz, Laguna police director, said though the vendor “is still not considered a suspect.”

Homer Mercado, owner of the HM buses, is offering a P300,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the arsonists.

Mercado, who lost in the recent party-list polls, believes that a criminal gang, not a militant group, is behind the arson.

He said he is willing to even raise the reward to P500,000.
