Cop in Jake Vargas siblings' 'kidnap' case surrenders
OLONGAPO CITY, Philippines - A police suspect in the controversial kidnap for ransom case involving the brother of young actor Jake Vargas surrendered to Olongapo City Mayor Rolen Paulino this morning.
Mayor Paulino identified the suspect as PO3 Arnold Chantengco who was allegedly involved in the kidnapping, robbery and extortion case filed by the family of actor Jake Vargas.
“He surrendered to me because he know that he will not be harmed and that we will give him due process,†Paulino said.
Paulino explained that Chantengco was brought to him by retired Police Capt. Phillip Bolina at his residence at around 7 a.m.
According to the actors siblings, Joseph and Odessa, they were allegedly forced to go with the suspects and were taken to the intelligence office of the PNP and was held there before the suspect asked for ransom which allegedly amounted to P2,000 in exchange for their freedom.
Chantengco was turned over to Sr. Insp. Gil Domingo and Olongapo City Police Office Director Sr. Supt. Rodolfo Recomono Jr.
Other suspects involved in the Vargas case who are still at large are PO3 Quinit, PO1 Jimenez, PO1 Asuncion and PO1 Eleazar Jimenez. - Anthony Bayarong
