MANILA, Philippines - A flashflood triggered by heavy rains has hit parts of Davao del Sur, leaving one person dead and affecting four villages.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the flood occurred in Purok Duranta, Barangay Bangkal Proper in Matanao town last Monday at 4:30 p.m.
NDRRMC spokesman Maj. Rey Balido said the flood was not related to the typhoon “Labuyo,†which ravaged parts of the Luzon and Visayas this week.
A 60-year old man identified as Erme Esperanza died after he was swept away by flood waters while tending his carabao.
The flood affected 12 families in Barangay Bangkal and undetermined number of residents from Barangays Kabasagan, Kapok and Tamlangon.
The incident also damaged the Borilon Bridge in Barangay Kabasagan, 20 hectares of banana trees and 1.56 hectares of coconut trees.
Municipal disaster management officials are now inspecting the affected areas.
