Baguio rep eyes more fund for road projects

Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines  – Funding for national road projects in Baguio from the public works department has been reduced,  Baguio Rep. Nicasio Aliping said Thursday.

From more than P400 million for  road projects and rehabilitation funds for Baguio, the DPWH has trimmed it down to more than P100 million  only.

Aliping is appealing to DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson to reverse the decision, citing “that while national roads in the city are already paved, many still need slope correction and protection, widening and lacking of road pavements.”

Singson said  “the appeal will be prioritized for reconsideration”.

If the request will be rejected, Aliping said he is preparing measures to convert some city roads to national roads.

“This measure is to help the city save funds,” he said.   “The savings can be used for other infrastructure projects like school buildings and improvement of other city roads.”

Aliping’s opponent during the last polls, former Rep. Bernardo Vergara,  was widely criticized for prioritizing national road projects over other road projects in the city.
