2 cops wanted for twin slays fall
CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union, Philippines – A police officer wanted for killing a fellow policeman in Agoo, La Union last year and another policeman tagged in the slay of a teacher in Luna town in 2003 were separately arrested by joint police operatives yesterday.
Senior Superintendent Ramon Rafael, La Union police director, identified the suspects as PO2 Vincent Layman, 42, and SPO2 Gerardo Lauriaga, 49.
Layman, one of the most wanted men in La Union, was nabbed for the fatal shooting of SPO2 Julius Espiritu on Nov. 27 last year.
Rafael said Layman, who was allegedly hired to kill his fellow police officer due to possible revenge, was arrested in Barangay Las-ud, Caba, La Union. Layman also faces two cases of frustrated murder in Bauang town and a homicide case in Agoo.
Lauriaga, wanted for killing teacher Geronimo Peralta in his classroom at the Nagrebcan Elementary School in 2003, was arrested in Marulas, Valenzuela City.
