PMA says no more 'kabog' of cadets

FORT DEL PILAR,  Baguio City  â€“ The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) has vowed that the  practice of upper classmen’s “kabog” (physical maltreatment) on lower class cadets has since stopped.

 

Reiterating the strict policy against maltreatment, a major change at the primary military officers’ training institution in the country,  the PMA is encouraging young men to  take the entrance examinations, pass it and become cadets.

 

Major Lynnette Flores, spokesperson of the PMA said, perception about  â€œkabog system” deters some to enter the Academy. 

 

She said the practice is no longer existing at the institution.

 

“PMA respects human rights and adheres to the principles of International Humanitarian Law and the rule of law,”  she said.

 

At least 37 testing centers all over the country will be conducting the PMA entrance examinations on August 25.  It is the first stage in the selection process for cadetship.  Candidates for cadetship must be natural-born Filipino citizen, physically fit and of good moral character, single and has never been married, at least high school graduate, minimum of 5’0 but not to exceed 6’4 for both male and female, no administrative/criminal case, must pass the PMAEE, and should be born from April 01, 1992 to April 01, 1997. 

 

The entrance examination covers Algebra and Geometry, Grammar and Composition, Reading and Comprehension, Verbal and Numerical Reasoning and Pattern Analysis. 

 

The next phase of  cadet selection  the Complete Physical Examination (CPE).  Under this phase, applicants  will undergo medical and physical fitness test to comply with the requirements for the military training they will undergo in the Academy.

 

Flores said being a PMA cadet gives an individual a noble privilege in serving the country while one is able to avail himself  of a free college education with a well-rounded curriculum, as well as, receive monthly pay and allowances.   

 

After graduating from the Academy, one is guaranteed a progressive career as an officer in the Army, Navy or Air Force.
