Kuliglig, pedicab drives, vendors buck phase out plan

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A group of "kuliglig," pedicab drivers, and sidewalk vendors on Wednesday opposed the plan of Manila City government to phase them out.

Members of the Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Pedikab at Kuliglig Drivers and the Anti-Zero Vending Policy Alliance in the city scored the plan the city government of Manila to clear them out of the streets.

In his  speech last June 30, Manila Mayor Joseph Erap Estrada ordered the removal of vendors from the streets of Manila, while kuligligs were also phased out from the city after the controversial bus ban ordinance.

The groups of kuliglig drivers and vendors said the plan would deprive them of their livelihood.

They said they will stage a series of protests against the administration of Mayor Estrada and Vice Mayor Isko Moreno leading to the local chief executive's first 100 days in office.
