P7M infra in Zamboanga City damaged by floods

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines  - Flash flood spawned by incessant rains since Friday have destroyed some P7-million worth of infrastructure projects in this city, government authorities said.

Mayor Isabel Climaco-Salazar, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) chairperson, said the damaged infrastructure include river rip rap and roads due to the heavy volume of flood water that hit the barangays of Tugbungan, Putik, and Manicahan.

She said  also reported damaged  by the city engineers’ office were several linear meters of roads  owing to soil erosion in the district of Curuan while minor damage was monitored in other government infrastructures in this city.

The CDRRMC reported earlier about 88 hectares of farms and fishponds inundated by heavy rains with an estimated damage worth close to half a million pesos.

Salazar said the CDRRMC has recommended measures that will help the flood victims and initiate measures for the immediate repair of the damaged infrastructures.

The city disaster council also recommended the establishment of permanent evacuation centers in its two districts. - Roel Pareño
