2 columnists killed in Quezon City

MANILA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Two newspaper columnists were gunned down Tuesday in Quezon City by unidentified suspects, local media reported Wednesday.

Bonifacio Loreto and Richard Kho, opinion writers of Aksyon Ngayon Newspaper, were shot Tuesday night in Commonwealth village in Quezon City, according to a report.

According to Senior Police Officer 1 Pascual Fabreag of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, the victims were drinking in front of a store when the suspects arrived and opened fire.

Loreto and Kho died from gunshot wounds.

The gunmen immediately left the area after the incident.

The police are investigating the incident. But Richelle, Kho's daughter, alleged that the killing of his father and Loreto may have something to do with their work as journalist.
