FBI probes Bacolod rape case vs American

Danny B. Dangcalan - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines– An agent of the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrived here this week to investigate the rape charges filed against an American national.

The agent, a Filipino-American whose name was not disclosed by the police, was in town from Tuesday to Thursday to investigate the case of the 59-year-old American charged for allegedly raping the 12-year-old daughter of his live-in partner in 2011.

Superintendent Armando Tubongbanua, chief of the city police’s special operations group, said the FBI agent who had met with the BCPO Women and Children’s Complaints Desk (WCCD) and the victim on Wednesday, had left Bacolod on Thursday.

Tubongbanua said the suspect, who is currently in the US, might be extradited to the Philippines, owing to an extradition treaty between the two countries.

The local police failed to arrest the suspect despite the issuance of a warrant by Judge Philadelfa Agraviador on June 25 this year for six counts of rape.

Tubongbanua said the victim is currently undergoing rehabilitation with the Bantay Bata 163 Negros and the city Department of Social Welfare and Development.
