PNP exam results in Mindanao invalidated

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The National Police Commission  invalidated the examination results of 225 examinees from Mindanao after they were found to have cheated in their Philippine National Police entrance and promotional examinations last year.

The Napolcom also barred the examinees from taking the exams again in three years.

Citing a memorandum circular, Napolcom vice chairman Eduardo Escueta said  the 205 civilian examinees shall be barred from taking the PNP entrance exam for three years.

Memorandum Circular No. 2000-007 prescribes the sanctions in case of cheating, collusion, misrepresentation, substitution or any anomalous acts in connection with the administration of police examinations conducted by the Napolcom.

"The 20 police examinees shall be barred from taking any police service examination for a period of three years. They could also be charged for dishonesty and be meted the penalty of dismissal from the service," Escueta said.

Escueta said they regularly conduct an answer pattern analysis to maintain the credibility and integrity of the police examinations.

He  said the Napolcom discovered that 205 PNP entrance examinees,  or 151 for the April 29, 2012 exam and 54 for the October 14, 2012 tests,  were found to have a high percentage of similar patterns of wrong answers ranging between 50 percent to 100 percent.

He added that 20 Police Officers 1 who took the Police Officer Examination on April 29 were also found to have a high percentage of similar patterns of wrong answers.

"The examinees’ high percentage of homogeneity of wrong answers is a strong and clear indication of statistical improbability which is regarded as prima facie evidence of the existence of examination irregularity or form of cheating as provided for under Section 4 of Republic Act No. 9416, otherwise known as the Anti-Cheating Law of 2007," Escueta said.
