MANILA, Philippines - The executive judge of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court on Friday denied the petition of militant group Bayan to allow them to hold a rally during President Benigno Aquino III's 4th State of the Nation Address on Monday.
Executive Judge Fernando Sagun dismissed the application for a 72-hour temporary restraining order to the decision of the city government disallowing Bayan to stage a rally near the Batasan Pambasa complex where Aquino will deliver his SONA.
For his part, Bayan secretary general Renato Reyes Jr. said their petition for certiorari will be raffled off before noon today to courts of general jurisdiction.
The case is expected to be heard on Monday, Reyes said.
Despite the denial of its permit to rally by the city government, Reyes said the preparation for the big protest action during the SONA is now in full swing
"March to push through," Reyes said in a text message.
The Quezon City police earlier announced that it will strictly implement the "no permit, no rally" policy on SONA day.
