School teacher gunned down in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines  - - A male public school teacher was gunned down on Thursday afternoon in a village east of this city, police said.

Police Chief Inspector Danilo Tendero, station 4 police commander identified the victim as Roderick Sanchez, 38, a teacher assigned in Lanzones Elementary School.

Police investigation disclosed that the victim had just alighted from his motorcycle to open their house’s gate at sitio Palayan, Barangay Culianan, when two unidentified men riding a motorcycle together stopped and fired at the victim about 4:46 p.m. Thursday.

The assassin’s bullets pelted the victim’s head before the latter dropped dead. The suspects escaped toward an unknown direction, police investigator said,  citing witnesses' accounts.

The responding police recovered four empty shells believed to be discharged from the .45 caliber pistol of the assailant near the lifeless body of Sanchez.

Police investigation is looking into personal grudge as the possible motive in the teacher's murder.
