Gangland-style killings in Kidapawan continue

John Unson - The Philippine Star

KIDAPAWAN City, Philippines - Gangland-style killings in the city continued as another civilian was gunned down by a suspected hired killer on Tuesday.

Inspector Samuel Bascon, chief of the city police's investigation section, identified the fatality as Eric Comanya.

Bascon said that Comanya was standing with a group of roadside vendors along villamarzo Street when a gunman wearing a balaclava shot him three times in the head and chest with a .45 pistol.

He said that according to witnesses, the gunman just casually walked away from the scene and escaped on a motorcycle after shooting down Comanya.

Comanya was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.

The latest killing is the 14th unsolved shooting incident in the city this year.

Seuperintendent Leo Ajero, city police chief, said intelligence operatives are gathering information to identify the killer and determine the motive for the killing.
