NORTH COTABATO, Philippines – Local officials yesterday dispatched engineers to inspect bridges, irrigation dikes and school buildings in Carmen town and surrounding areas that were hit by a magnitude 5.2 earthquake Monday afternoon.
The local officials are worried that the tremor could have damaged vital infrastructure hit by another strong earthquake last June 1.
The June 1 temblor, whose epicenter was near the Carmen town proper, damaged more than a hundred houses and school buildings, and two bridges along the Sayre Highway that connects North Cotabato and Bukidnon.
