Charge me, Duterte dares CHR, Malacañang
DAVAO CITY , Philippines – Mayor Rodrigo Duterte yesterday dared the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and even the Office of the President to charge him over the alleged “overkill†of the local police in last Thursday’s rescue of a Filipino-Chinese businesswoman who was seized in Quezon City last July 5.
Duterte said he was unfazed by whatever moves the CHR and even Malacañang would take against him for issuing a “shoot-to-kill†order against kidnappers.
“Sue me. I will see you even up to the Supreme Court,†he said.
Duterte said he would never abandon the police officers who were involved in the shootout with the kidnappers.
“I take full responsibility for what happened and I will never abandon our policemen when I know what they did was right and they did it risking their lives, too,†he said.
Police rescued Sally Chua, 52, from his kidnappers who took her on a five-day land trip from Quezon City to Mindanao through roll-on, roll-off vessels, passing through the Bicol region, Samar, Leyte, the cities of Surigao, Butuan and Cagayan de Oro before reaching Davao City where the P15-million ransom was supposed to be withdrawn from a bank.
Three of Chua’s kidnappers were killed while another one was arrested during the rescue operation.
