Kudarat court sheriff gunned down

John Unson - The Philippine Star

SULTAN KUDARAT, Philippines – Two motorcycle-riding men gunned down a court sheriff, who also served as a judiciary summons officer on concurrent capacity, in a residential area in Isulan town, this province’s capital, on Tuesday morning, police said.

The victim, Edwin Cabug, an employee of Regional Trial Court Branch 19 in Isulan, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.

Superintendent Roel Surmese, Isulan police chief, said Cabug was sweeping his frontyard when the gunmen pulled over, drew their handguns and shot him.

Surmese said investigators have yet to establish the identities of Cabug’s attackers and their motive for killing him.

Surmese said police have sealed all entry and exit points in Isulan to prevent the gunmen from leaving the municipality.
