2 cops, 1 other nabbed for drugs in Cagayan de Oro

MANILA, Philippines - Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested three persons, including two policemen, after they sold methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, in a buy-bust operation in Cagayan de Oro City, the PDEA bared on Tuesday.
Nabbed during the sting operation were Police Officer 1 Santiago Lumancas, 41, of Woodland Subdivision, Buena Oro; and Police Officer 3 Bangcola Manangkawal, 40, of Villa Angela Subdivision, Balulang.
The PDEA said both are active members of the Police Regional Office 10-Regional Headquarters Service Support Group.
A report showed that an undercover PDEA agent bought four plastic sachets containing shabu weighing approximately 20 grams worth P160,000 from Lumancas.
They agreed to meet at Woodland Subdivision, Buena Oro, Macasandig, Cagayan de Oro City last July 7 around 6:30 p.m., the report added.
After handing over the illegal drug to the poseur-buyer, operatives swooped down on Lumancas. The suspect's companion, Crisanto Lagunero, 28, was also apprehended.
Authorities confiscated from the two a cal. 45 pistol, with five pieces of live ammunition, an M16 assault rifle with 20 pieces of live ammunition, a mobile phone and the P5,000 buy-bust money.
Four hours later, a follow-up entrapment resulted in the arrest of Manangkawal in Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City.
Seized from Manangkawal were 50 grams of shabu with an estimated value of P400,000, a cal.45 pistol and a Toyota Innova (ZDC-139).
All three suspects, now facing drug raps, are under the custody of PDEA RO10.
The PDEA said that from January to June 2013, a total of eight police officers were arrested by authorities for violating the anti-drug law.
