Batangas cop slain in son’s school

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A police officer was killed while a grade two pupil was wounded in a shooting that occurred in a school in Padre Garcia, Batangas yesterday morning.

Police Officer 2 Dominic Bituin of the Provincial Special Operations Group died on the spot due to a gunshot wound in the head, while John Rio Bernadas, eight, a pupil of the Padre Garcia Central School, suffered a bullet wound in the chest and was rushed to the Rosales Hospital for treatment.

Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona, Calabarzon police director, said the shooting took place at past 6 a.m. Bituin took his son to school when an unidentified gunman shot him at close range.

A stray bullet reportedly hit Bernadas.Investigators said Bituin’s attacker fled on a motorcycle toward Lipa City. – Ed Amoroso, Arnell Ozaeta
