Twister hits Cotabato town

NORTH COTABATO, Philippines – A tornado flattened rice and corn fields and toppled eight power posts in Libungan town this province Friday afternoon, plunging dozens of villages into darkness.

The Cotabato Electric Cooperative, in an advisory, said it would take its linemen until this morning to restore power supply to isolated barangays in Libungan and Pigcawayan towns, and in Northern Kabuntalan, Maguindanao.

Several trees along portions of the Cotabato-Davao Highway were also felled, causing traffic jams that stranded motorists and commuters for several hours.
