MANILA, Philippines - Several elected leaders of the local government units (LGUs) are set to take their oath of office today before officials of their choice.
In Pampanga, Senator-elect Grace Poe-Llamanzares is set to administer the oath taking of Candaba Mayor-elect Rene Maglanque at 4 p.m. today.
Maglanque, a member of the Liberal Party, said LP leaders are expected to witness the ceremonies.
He said he asked Poe-Llamanzares to be the guest of honor and she agreed and assured him of her presence at the ceremony.
In Bulacan, Gov. Wilhelmino Alvarado will lead the 264 elected officials of the province in today’s traditional oath taking at the Capitol gymnasium.
In Pangasinan, Gov. Amado Espino Jr. and Vice Gov. Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr., along with the 12 members of the provincial board, took their oath before Judge Teodoro Fernandez in a ceremony held at the Sison Auditorium the other day.
Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez and the members of the city council took their oath also the other day, before Civil Service Commission Chairman Francisco Duque.
Meanwhile, the vice mayor of Luna, in Apayao is also set to take her oath as the town’s top executive as the mayor, who was killed in a vehicular accident in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, will be laid to rest today.
Vice Mayor Josephine Bangsil, who was injured in the same incident that left Mayor Betty Versola dead, has already been discharged from the hospital.
In Mindanao, re-elected lawmakers, Reps. Francisco Tinio Matugas of the first district and Guillermo Romarate of the second district, took their oath of office before Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol Matugas.
Matugas, the first woman governor of the province, also took her oath for a second term before her husband Rep. Francisco Tinio Matugas.
Vice Gov. Junjun Egay and the rest of newly elected board members also took their oath last Friday. – Ric Sapnu, Eva Visperas, Dino Balabo, Raymund Catindig, Ben Serrano
