Canadian drowns at Cavite beach

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A 73-year-old Canadian man drowned while swimming at a beach in Puerto Azul, Ternate, Cavite Sunday, police said yesterday.

Ian Birch, of British Columbia, was declared dead on arrival at the Cavite Municipal Hospital.

Investigation showed Birch, his Filipina fiancée, Jean Omison, 32, and some friends arrived at the Palicpican beach at about 9 a.m.

Police Officer 3 Judito Baligod said they have yet to determine if there was foul play involved in the incident, even as initial investigation showed heart attack as the cause of Birch’s death.
