Village chief faces more raps for fiscal’s slay

MANILA, Philippines - Aside from criminal case, the village chairman of Barangay Calayaan in Sta. Teresita, Batangas is facing administrative charges in connection with the killing of assistant provincial prosecutor Alexander Sandoval, an official of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said yesterday.

Barangay Calayaan chairman Hermogenes Mendoza and his wife, former Sta. Teresita town mayor Anna Marie, were earlier tagged as the brains in the killing of Sandoval last June 13.

Josefina Castilla-Go, DILG Region 4A regional director, said her office is still waiting for the report of the DILG-Batangas on Mendoza’s case.

Go said the number one barangay councilman would be designated to head Barangay Calayaan as Mendoza would be under investigation.

She said Hermogenes remains in hiding as of press time.

The Department of Justice has already concluded its preliminary investigation on the murder charges filed against the couple and the other suspects.
