Seaman yields machine pistol at police checkpoint
NORTH COTABATO, Philippines - Policemen manning a roadside checkpoint nabbed in Kidapawan City Sunday night a 40-year-old seaman for possession of an Israeli 9 millimeter Uzi machine pistol.
Rey Manzano of Apo Sandawa Homes in Kidapawan City, did not resist arrest when policemen and soldiers found the gun hidden underneath one of his Toyota Innova's seats.
Manzano’s companion, Nestor Orongon, was also arrested but freed several hours later after probers found out that he was only working as driver for the suspect.
Manzano’s vehicle was also loaded with fighting cocks which he and Orongon procured from a nearby town.
The seaman failed to show any document that would prove the legitimacy of his ownership of the machine pistol.
The Kidapawan City police will file illegal possession of firearms against Manzano at a local court on Tuesday.
