TACURONG CITY, Philippines --- A 10-year-old boy was killed while four others were injured in a blast that rocked nearby Lambayong town at dawn Wednesday.
Col. Dickson Hermoso, spokesman of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said the fatality died from shrapnel wounds sustained in the explosion.
The victim's parents and siblings - one a 14-year-old and the other a six-year-old - were injured in the explosion and now confined at a hospital here.
The victims were all asleep when two men crawled underneath their hut, planted an improvised explosive device and left.
Investigators said the bombers set the IED off from a distance using an ignition device attached to a pair of long electrical wires.
Local officials are now helping the police look into the possibility that the bombing could have been precipitated by a land dispute involving the victim's family and the bombers.
