Dog causes highway crash in Basilan; 16 hurt

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - A speeding passenger van flipped to its side after attempting to avoid a dog crossing the highway of Lamitan City in Basilan province on Thursday afternoon, leaving at least 16 people injured.

Chief Inspector Kennetch Balisang, city police chief, said that the van (JVM 374) was speeding along the highway in Barangay Ubit when a dog suddenly crossed the road.

The driver abruptly turned the van to avoid the dog. The driver lost control of the steering wheel and the van flipped to its side.

The villagers who witnessed the accident rushed the passengers and the driver of the van to a nearby hospital.
