MMDA reroutes traffic for Independence Day, suspends number coding
MANILA, Philippines - Several streets in Manila will be closed to traffic on Wednesday for activities to commemorate the country's 115th Independence Day, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced.
In a traffic advisory released, the MMDA said parts of Liwasang Bonifacio will be starting 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Also closed to traffic as of Tuesday afternoon are Postal Rd./ Muelle del Rio Magallanes Drive Ext. from Jones Bridge to McArthur Bridge.
To be closed starting at 6 a.m. Wednesday are Dasmariñas/Plaza Sta. Cruz (Southbound) Escolta/Plaza Sta. Cruz (Southbound) McArthur Bridge (Southbound) Jones Bridge (Northbound) and onwards in Rizal Monument both North and Southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard from Katigbak to TM Kalaw.
Vehicles coming from the Jones flyover intending to pass through Magallanes Drive Extension are advised to go straight to the Jones Bridge/Quintin Paredes to their point of destination.
All vehicles coming from Rizal Avenue intending to use the southbound lane of McArthur Bridge will take Dasmariñas St., left Juan Luna, left Plaza Cervantes, right Jones Bridge to their point of destination.
Meanwhile, all provincial buses coming from Laguna and Cavite passing through Taft Avenue going to Lawton/Park N Ride will have to make a right turn at UN Avenue, right San Marcelino to their point of destination.
The MMDA has designated the following as parking areas ( VIP parking) inside the Post Office (parking for participants); infront of Metropolitan Theater (Media parking); Mehan Garden, Magallanes Drive fronting the National Press Club and at the Bureau of Immigration area.
The MMDA also announced that the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program, or the number coding scheme is automatically suspended across Metro Manila on Wednesday being a holiday.
