The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines -- Gunmen shot to death a barangay chairman in a remote Lagayan town in Abra early Thursday morning.

Cordillera police director Chief Supt. Benjamin Magalong said Trium Pajo Donato, 42, who was incumbent chairman of barangay Pulot, Lagayan town, was heading home at around 5:30 a.m.  after visiting his ricefield when gunmen attacked and killed the victim.

The village chairman suffered multiple bullet wounds from still undisclosed  gun caliber,  killing him instantly.

Magalong, who earlier  said the peace and order situation in Abra has been improving,  said investigators are leaving no "stones unturned" to identify the killers of the barangay chairman.

During the elections,  no single shooting incident occurred in the whole province of Abra. - Artemio A. Dumlao
