Probe of Batangas landslide underway

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Authorities is investigating a landslide in Laurel, Batangas which left three workers dead and two others wounded the other day.

The five workers were doing riprap works on the slope of the mountain along the Amuyong Highway when the soil and boulders rolled down at about 3:30 p.m.

Police said the probe would determine if there were lapses in security measures and if the construction firm is liable for the incident. It would also identify the cause of the landslide.

Director Vicente Tomazar, regional director of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council 4A, said officials from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 4A and other agencies were dispatched to the landslide site to assess the situation.
