Imee wants to take oath before oldest barangay chief
LAOAG CITY , Philippines – Who is the oldest village chief of them all in Ilocos Norte? Please step forward.
If Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV is taking his oath of office before a Caloocan City barangay chairman, re-elected Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos is poised to do the same but before the most senior village chief in her province.
Marcos has instructed her staff to look for the oldest barangay head in the province, as she would like to revive a tradition she began in 2001 when she was elected for her first term as Ilocos Norte representative.
The tradition, however, was broken in 2010 when she took her oath as governor before Ilocos Norte Judge Conrado Ragucos. She completed three terms as congressman of the province’s second district and was succeeded by her mother, former first lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos.
Mrs. Marcos won her second term by a landslide while her daughter ran unopposed in the recent polls. – With Charlie Lagasca
