Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A World War II fragmentation hand grenade was found infront of the Makati Police substation 10 along Maya Street in Barangay Rizal, Thursday morning.

A report sent to the Southern Police District headquarters said the Makati Police Tactical Operation Center received a call about an unexploded grenade found infront of the police substation at about 7:00 a.m.

A bomb disposal team from the Special Weapons and Tactic (SWAT) unit was immediately sent to recover and render safe the MK2 grenade that was found without its safety lever and fuse.

The grenade, also known as the “pineapple” grenade because of its shape, was later turned over to the SPD-Explosives and Ordnance Division for proper disposition.

Police said that Arnold Elestrino, a barangay watchman, found the grenade as he was walking along Maya Street. Elestrino then called for police assistance.
