Missing mountaineer rescued on Mt. Banahaw

The Philippine Star

DOLORES, Quezon, Philippines – A female mountaineer who went missing on Mt. Banahaw last May 23 was safely rescued last Monday afternoon, police said.

Senior Superintendent Dionardo Carlos, Quezon police director, said the 27-year-old mountaineer, call center agent Nina Gacutan, sustained bruises on her legs.

Police said Gacutan, along with two companions and a guide, went hiking on Mt. Banahaw last May 23 but strayed from her group after reaching the summit of Mt. Banahaw. She took refuge in a cave.

The Dolores municipal environment office said the mountaineers entered a protected area which was declared a no-entry zone in 2004 due to its deteriorating condition.
